Our Society
  • was founded in 1976 as a member of NADFAS  for "the promotion and advancement of aesthetic education and the cultivation and study of the decorative and fine arts"
  • has over 260 members, from all over North Cumbria and further afield.  (There are also societies in Westmorland and South Lakeland)
  • arranges outings, study days, social events etc; and meets 8 times a year for lectures (every third Thursday in the month except at holiday seasons)
  • is divided for attendance at lectures between the Morning session, which starts at 10.45 am (with coffee available at the hotel beforehand), and the Afternoon session which hears the same lecture at 2 pm.  Lunch is also available at a reasonable price and gives a good opportunity to make new friends.

NEW MEMBERS are most welcome particularly for the Afternoon Session.

GUESTS are also welcome at lectures (@ £5 per head) when sponsored by a Member and by arrangement with the Secretary.

What the subscription of £35.00 for 2011 - 2012 buys
  • 8 lectures from lecturers chosen for their skills and knowledge either locally or from a panel vetted by NADFAS.  Lectures are held at the Hundith Hill Hotel,Hundith Hill Hotel Lorton Road, near Cockermouth
  • the NADFAS magazine (quarterly by post)
  • Other activities for Members
  • OUTINGS to museums, houses, gardens, other places of cultural interest
  • STUDY DAYS on many subjects such as  lace, clocks, china
  • TOURS/HOLIDAYS in the U.K. and abroad
  • SOCIAL EVENTS including Spring and Christmas Lunches
  • PARTICIPATION in conservation work e.g. church recording or textile restoration
